We have had another great week in the building. Although it has been a short week, a lot of learning has taken place. I was able to hop into classrooms this week and see the amazing job our staff is doing. Seeing so many engaged students in the classrooms was wonderful to see and speaks volumes for both the students and our staff. Here are a few updates for the week. I want to again thank everyone for working with the school while we our utilizing our four phase plan. We had our first week in yellow and students adapted to the changes very quickly. Temp checks in the morning have been very smooth and students have been able to get into the building in a timely fashion. We will offer second breakfast while in the yellow phase and that began this past Wednesday. As a friendly reminder, picture day is set for September 17. Orders will be held online this year and a link to the order form is on our website. If you need a physical order form, please contact the office and we can send one home with your kiddo. Virtual students will have the opportunity to take their school pictures that day as well from 8:00 – 8:15 in the auditorium. I strongly encourage our virtual students to participate in picture day to avoid not being pictured in the yearbook. First mid-quarter has been shifted from September 18th to September 25th. This will be utilized to determine mandatory tutoring or ineligibility to participate in activities. Please refer to the student handbook for details on this policy. Homecoming is coming up and plans are well on their way for the event. To go along with the previous point, students who have a grade of D+ or lower in any class will not be allowed to participate in Homecoming activities during the school day. Please encourage your students to check in on their grades and ensure their eligibility for this fun day. That is all for now but as always, please do not hesitate to contact the office or my email at jgilbert@richhill.k12.mo.us. It is always a great day to be a Tiger!

Good afternoon! We had a great day here in the building. It was great to see the kids and get back into the classroom. I want to thank everyone for preparing your kids for the phase orange protocols. It made for a smooth beginning of the school day and got the school year started on a great note. I do have one modification to our morning routine. When parents/guardians are dropping off students, I please ask not to do so on third street. We found that when students were dropped off on third street, it held up the buses from arriving in a timely manner and more importantly became a safety hazard for those students being dropped off. I please ask that if you drop off your kiddos at school, please do so in the dome parking lot or the north parking lot and have them walk to the double doors in front of the auditorium. This will ensure their safety. I want to brag on our teachers for prepping for a fantastic first day and we all look forward to day two!!!

Good afternoon! I hope everyone is having a great week. Although we did not have our first day of school this past Monday, we are preparing for re-entry this upcoming Monday. I am still so excited to get students back into the building and doing so in a safe fashion. Per guidance from the health department, we are going to start the school year in phase orange. Students are encouraged to wear masks in the building, especially during transition times where social distancing is difficult. With temperature checks occurring before students enter the building, I strongly encourage students to arrive in a timely manner so they do not run the risk of being late. It will take more time for students to enter the building due to these protocols but safety does come first. Orange Phase Procedures 1. Junior High and High School students will enter the building through the double doors in front of the auditorium the same way as phase yellow. Here, students will have their temperatures checked. 2. All students will report to their first period class after passing temperature checks. If a student elects to eat breakfast, they will go to the cafeteria and pick up their breakfast and then proceed to their first period classroom. Only exceptions to this rule are students who have a teacher who is on duty at this time and they will be directed to where they are supposed to go. 3. Lockers will NOT be allowed during the orange phase. I encourage the use of backpacks during this time. Teachers will explain their expectations of backpacks in their classrooms. 4. 2nd breakfast will be cancelled during phase orange. If students eat breakfast at school, I encourage them to arrive at school earlier so they do not miss first breakfast. 5. Lunches will now be in student’s fifth period classroom. Students will report to their fifth period classroom immediately following fourth period (with the exception of Ag Construction) and be dismissed at their designated time to the cafeteria to obtain their lunch and return back to their fifth period class. Students will have 20 minutes that will be instruction free in the classroom to eat their lunch. Ag Construction students will go directly to the cafeteria after fourth period to pick up their lunch and report to the Ag building. Acellus was pushed out this week to all students. This is the virtual platform that the district selected for students selecting that option. Although this is the primary curriculum for our virtual students, it will also be utilized for supplemental material for our on-campus students. This platform has many great features for both on-campus and virtual students that help the learning process. I want to thank everyone for reading these updates and preparing your kids for the first day of school. I cannot wait to get the school year rolling and doing it in a safe manner. If you have questions, please do not hesitate to contact me via email at jgilbert@richhill.k12.mo.us.
