WEMO Patrons,
Conference administrators have been involved in discussions regarding the upcoming WEMO junior high and high school volleyball tournaments for nearly two months. Concerns regarding both student and community safety have driven these conversations. After thoughtful consideration, it had been determined that placing athletes and spectators from 10 schools in a single indoor facility will raise the risk of a large-scale COVID-19 outbreak to an unacceptable level. Therefore, contingency plans will be utilized.
Options for multiple formats of play are being designed. Our goal is to play both tournaments using an alternate format that will reduce the number of individuals preset in any one facility. The junior high tournament will still be held on Saturday, October 10. The high school tournament has been rescheduled and will now be played on Saturday, October 24. Location information, format, and times will be released when details have been finalized.
Best Regards,
WEMO Conference Superintendents & Athletic/Activities Directors

Dear Rich Hill Community,
Well, this wasn’t how I wanted to start out the school year, but my COVID test came back positive. After consultation with Bates County Health Officials and the school board, we have decided to postpone the start of school until Monday, August 31st. This gives individuals I was in close contact with time to develop symptoms or get tested if they need to. We will start school in Phase ORANGE and recommend(not require) that students wear masks in the building. Because most people aren’t in the building, we are attempting to work on Acellus online students from home, but there’s only so much we can do. Acellus students probably won’t start on August 31st. We will let you know as soon as we know how quickly they will be entered into the system.

This is an update from Superintendent Kevin Goddard. The board has decided to postpone the start of school until Wednesday. Athletic practices will continue as scheduled and coaches will be wearing masks. UCM dual credit classes will still begin tomorrow. The building will be open for faculty and staff who have things they would like to get done before students return on Wednesday. Thank you and stay safe.

This is Superintendent Kevin Goddard. On Friday, I woke up with a seasonal asthma attack which isn’t unusual for me in August. By the end of the day Friday, however, I felt like I had the flu. I was sick through the day Saturday and this morning. After discussing my symptoms with my primary care, I went to the Emergency Room where they decided to administer a test for COVID19 and a chest x-ray. My x-ray was clear but the COVID results will not be back until tomorrow or Tuesday. Even now, I feel much better than I have for the last two days. I have consulted with the Bates County Health Department and they have asked me to quarantine until my results come back. They do not consider my interaction with staff during training days as high risk. Out of an abundance of caution, I am directing all school staff to wear face shields or masks until my results come back. Custodial staff is disinfecting the building tonight. Just as we are asking parents to screen their kids for the symptoms listed on our district webpage, we are asking staff to watch themselves for possible symptoms. At this time, the health department advised the school to stay in Phase Yellow. We thank everyone for your patience. The board and I want everyone to be as informed as possible so you can make the best decisions for your child’s health. The rest of the staff hopes to see everyone at school tomorrow. I will give notification of my test results as soon as I have them.

School begins in two days! On your marks...

Thanks to Kortney & Kody for organizing the Huddle 4 H2O fundraiser! Water bottles were just delivered for each student in the school district.

The elementary and high school offices will be closed until 1:00 pm today as all staff have back to school meetings. If your child still needs to enroll for the fall semester, please come up this afternoon to pick up enrollment packets. The offices will be back open Tuesday-Friday. We apologize for the inconvenience.

Please take a moment to read this joint statement from all WEMO schools. If questions arise, please contact Athletic/Activities Director Ashley Arwood at aarwood@richhill.k12.mo.us or 417-395-4191.
