What do the experts say?

As we approach back to school, parents may be worried about whether school will be safe. CDC Director Dr. Robert Redfield says, "Having the schools actually closed is a greater public health threat to the children than having the schools reopen...I'm confident we can open these schools safely...this virus is relatively benign to those of us that are under the age of 20."

In fact, CDC data shows that 4.9% of COVID19 cases are in the 5-17 age group. Of the total deaths from COVID19 in the US, 0.1% are ages 5-17, or 108 kids. The science suggests that kids immune systems are strong enough that typically they don't build up enough viral load to actually develop COVID19 or transmit it to others, including adults (https://www.usatoday.com/story/opinion/2020/07/03/covid-19-kids-back-to-school-column/5350433002/). With the additional disinfecting and other structural procedures we are taking, we are confident your children are very safe at school.
