Rich Hill Vs Midway

On Tuesday night the Rich Hill Tigers travel to Midway for a conference game. Both teams came into the night looking for a chance to improve their team records and standings in the conference race. The Tigers last week in the Appleton City tournament had been upset early in the tournament but were able to win the final two games and capture the consolation side of the bracket.

The boy’s teams started off the night with a Junior Varsity game against the Vikings.  In the early part of the two quarter contest the Tigers needed to knock off a little rust due about a two-week layoff since their last contest. Rich Hill started off a little slow offensively but were able to get into a nice rhythm and scored 18 points by the end of the first quarter while limiting the Vikings to 13 points. In the second frame the Tigers took control and tightened up their defense limiting their host to just 2 points and won the game 27-15.

Scoring for the Tigers was led by Blake Laning with 9 points, followed by Magal Chol 7, Daylen Walton with 5, Adrien King and Lucas each contributed 2 and Daniel Bridgewater and Garren Stuecks added one each. The young Tiger team had all members score for the evening. The Junior Varsity Tigers will play again on Friday night after the JV girls two quarters game.

In the second boys game of the night the Varsity Boys took the court against the Vikings. In the early going the Tigers got off to a slow start and found themselves in a tight contest and were trailing at the end of one quarter 10-11. The pace of the game picked up with the Tigers adding a little more defensive pressure which helped slow the Vikings down. The offense was patience picking their spots to score and at the half the team from Rich Hill found themselves leading 24-19. Coach Moles made some adjustments at half time to the defense and try to make sure the offense continued to be patient. The second half saw the Tigers come out and try and extent their lead and just when it looked like they might pull away The Vikings went on a hot streak hitting three treys in a row cutting quacking in the lead. Rich Hill settled back down and was able to post a four-point lead after the end of three, 39-35.  The final frame saw the Vikings switch to pressure game hoping to force the Tigers into turning the ball over. The boys were able to maintain their composure forcing Midway to start fouling the Tigers sending them to the free throw line 16 times in the quarter. Hitting free throws and some timely baskets allow the Tigers to come away with an eleven-point win over the Vikings, 55-44. With the win the Tigers improved their record to 6-9 for the year and 1-2 in the conference. The next contest will be Friday night against the Sherwood Marksmen. The contest will also be Court warming for Rich Hill.
