WEMO Patrons,
In recent weeks, conference administrators have held meetings to discuss the fall sports season. Member schools gathered to develop a plan for conducting conference activities while mitigating health risks associated with the current pandemic. The goal agreed upon by all was, and continues to be, to allow students the opportunity to engage in meaningful extra-curricular activities to the maximum extent possible. This letter will outline procedures agreed upon by all WEMO Conference schools.
Students
- Visiting teams will be temperature checked prior to boarding transport
- Home teams will be temperature checked upon arrival for competition
- Facial coverings are recommended for those not engaged in strenuous activity
Spectators
- All spectators will sign in on a contact tracing document upon entry (Health Dept. Request)
- All spectators will sanitize their hands upon entry
- Facial coverings are recommended
- Physical distancing between family groups is encouraged
- Bands will play at a safe distance from others
- Cheerleaders will perform at a safe distance from others
Activities
The decision to implement this plan was considered with one common theme in mind – doing what is best for students. As educational leaders, we have sought information from a variety of sources. These guidelines, which you can expect to observe at all WEMO member schools, are based on the most current guidance from medical and scientific findings. They are being implemented to protect all fall sports seasons. Our students are ready to compete and we are ready support them on the field or court. Adhering to this plan and the recommendations therein will assist in maintaining your student’s ability to compete without gaps in the schedule.
Please understand that these are minimum requirements. If at any time a county health department mandates masks, we must follow their guidance to hold competitions. Updates to requirements will be communicated to the schools involved as early as possible. For this reason, we ask that everyone remain patient, flexible, and prepared. We are ready for fall sports to take place and hope you are too.
